Description

The large wide Baba in green is the broad shape at its biggest, 33cm across and 41cm tall, swelling out near the base and drawing in to a narrow neck. The glass is a deep olive green that darkens towards the base where the wall is thickest and lightens at the shoulder. The hammered surface is at its clearest on this one, because the widest part carries the most glass and every dent takes its own highlight. A chrome collar caps the neck and carries a black lampholder with a shade ring.

This is a base only: no shade and no bulb. Lit, the green does not stay green: the bulb warms it through to an olive gold, so the base reads as a lit object rather than a coloured one. At 33cm across it is the widest shape in the range and it wants a sideboard or a console rather than a bedside table. It takes an E27 bulb, the cord runs 2.5m, the plug is UK and EU, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The glass is recycled, blown by hand into a mould and then hammered while still molten, so the dents and the depth of the green differ from one base to the next. The collar and stem are chrome. The Baba range runs to eleven lamp bases in clear, green and burnt amber, in tall and wide shapes and in two sizes. Neither a shade nor a bulb is included.

Frequently Asked

Does it come with a shade?

No. It is the base only, with a black lampholder and a shade ring on top. Supplied without a shade.

How green is it when the lamp is on?

Less green than it looks switched off. The bulb warms the glass through to an olive gold, and the colour reads deepest at the base where the wall is thickest.

What is the maximum bulb wattage?

It takes an E27 screw fitting. Fit no more than the maximum wattage marked on the lampholder.

How do I clean it?

Unplug it and take any shade off, then wipe the glass with a soft dry cloth in a circular motion. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off it.
