Description

The small wide Baba in burnt amber is the low, broad shape at 34cm tall and 20cm across, swelling out near the base and drawing in sharply to a narrow neck. The glass is a strong orange amber, deepest through the body and clearing towards the neck, and the hammered surface breaks it into small facets that hold the colour unevenly. A chrome collar caps the neck and carries a black lampholder with a shade ring. The cord is rust coloured, runs 2.5m, and carries an on and off switch along its length.

This is a base only: no shade and no bulb. Amber is the one colourway that puts colour into the room rather than only into the glass: lit, it throws warm orange onto the surface under it and onto whatever stands beside it. At 20cm across it suits a bedside table or a side table, where the switch on the cord matters more than it does on a lamp that is reached across a room. It takes an E27 bulb, the plug is UK and EU, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The glass is recycled and hand blown into a mould using traditional methods, then hammered while still molten, so the facets and the depth of the amber differ from one base to the next. The collar and stem are chrome. The Baba range runs to eleven lamp bases in clear, green and burnt amber, in tall and wide shapes and in two sizes. Neither a shade nor a bulb is included.

Frequently Asked

Does it come with a shade?

No. It is the base only, with a black lampholder and a shade ring on top. Supplied without a shade.

Is there a switch on the cord?

Yes. The on and off switch sits on the 2.5m cord, so the lamp is switched at the cord rather than at the socket.

What is the maximum bulb wattage?

It takes an E27 screw fitting. Fit no more than the maximum wattage marked on the lampholder.

How do I clean it?

Unplug it and take any shade off, then wipe the glass with a soft dry cloth in a circular motion. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off it.
