Description

A 50 x 50cm cushion cover woven as a flat kilim, with a large stepped diamond running almost the full width of the face. The diamond is brown with a pale oatmeal centre, and the ground behind it is close to black, flecked where darker and lighter fibres run together. The weave is coarse and open enough to read as a grid from a short distance, with no pile on it at all.

At 50 x 50cm this is a standard square cushion size, which puts it on a sofa, an armchair or at the head of a bed. The dark ground reads before the pattern does. The cover measures 1cm through when it is lying flat.

The yarn is wool and jute, woven on a handloom row by row, so the lines of the diamond step rather than curve and the density of the weave shifts a little across the face. There is no pile: the pattern sits in the weave itself. The cover weighs 0.32kg on its own.

Frequently Asked

What size is it?

50 x 50cm.

What is it made from?

Wool and jute, woven on a handloom.

How is the pattern made?

On a handloom, in a flat weave, building the pattern up row by row. Small variations in the weave come with that.

Will the colours fade?

The covers are tested for colourfastness.

How should it be looked after?

Follow the care label on the product. Many of these covers are washable, but some fabrics are spot clean only. For a spill, lift the liquid with an absorbent tissue, then blot the area with a sponge or a clean folded towel moistened in lukewarm water, and dry it with warm air from a hair dryer to avoid water marks. Larger or more stubborn stains should be cleaned by a professional.
