Description

These round stoneware cups come as a set of four, each holding 250ml and standing 10.5cm tall on a raised foot. The bowl swells out to 9cm across, then narrows sharply into a short pedestal, and a neat ring handle loops out from the rim, so the shape sits somewhere between a teacup and a small goblet. The glaze is blue and runs in streaks down the sides, gathering towards the foot, so every cup carries its own markings and no two of the four look quite alike. Around the foot runs a band of raised swirls.

At 250ml, each one is a generous tea or coffee cup rather than a big mug: the right size for a pot of tea shared between four, a milky coffee in the morning or a hot chocolate after a winter walk. The raised foot lifts the bowl clear of the table and the ring handle takes a finger through it, which suits slow weekend breakfasts and coffee with guests at the end of a dinner.
