Description

The Avni is a mistletoe spray made in iron and finished in antique brass, 33cm across, hanging from a wire hook worked into the top. Flat leaves are cut in pairs along fine stems and small round berries sit at the joints. The leaves carry a darker, browner tone than the berries, which stay brighter where the finish catches the light.

It hangs rather than stands, and on a wall it reads as an outline against the plaster. A doorway is the traditional place for mistletoe and at 0.09kg this is light enough for one. Unlike a cut spray it goes back into a box in January.

The metal is iron throughout, under an antique brass finish. Each leaf is cut and each stem bent by hand, so no two sprays hang quite the same way. The hook is part of the piece rather than a fitting added to it.
