Description

The Austral is a 96cm bar pendant carrying five textured acrylic globes suspended from a gold-finished metal base, each housing an integrated LED module totalling 26W at 3200K. The acrylic spheres are moulded with a faceted surface pattern that mimics hand-cut crystal, refracting light into soft prismatic patterns across the surrounding surfaces when illuminated.

Designed for kitchen islands and dining tables between 1.6m and 2.2m in length, the linear configuration distributes light across the horizontal plane rather than concentrating it in one spot. The 150cm maximum drop and 25cm minimum drop allow the pendant to be adjusted on installation to suit ceiling heights from 2.4m upwards, with most installations setting the globes 700-850mm above the table or worktop surface. The IP20 rating limits the Austral to dry indoor locations only.

The gold finish on the metal bar and globe bases provides a warm metallic accent that pairs with brass hardware, warm timber and mid-toned neutrals. The transparent acrylic allows the LED modules inside each globe to remain visible, creating a dual-layered effect where the light source becomes part of the decorative composition rather than being hidden. At 5.7kg the pendant requires ceiling fixings rated for at least 10kg to account for dynamic loading during installation.

Schuller manufactures the Austral in Spain as part of their contemporary decorative lighting collection. The integrated LED cannot be replaced independently — when the module reaches end of life the entire globe assembly is replaced. The 3200K colour temperature produces a warm white light warmer than typical 3000K LEDs, sitting between standard warm white and the amber tone of traditional incandescent filament bulbs.

Is the Austral dimmable?

The integrated LED driver supports dimming when paired with a compatible trailing-edge LED dimmer switch. Compatibility varies by dimmer model, so confirm with the manufacturer or test before full installation.

What table length does this suit?

The 96cm bar works best over dining tables or kitchen islands between 1.6m and 2.2m in length. For longer surfaces, two Austral pendants can be installed in sequence, or a longer bar pendant from the Schuller range may be more suitable.

Can the LED modules be replaced?

No. The LED modules are integrated into each globe assembly and are not user-replaceable. When the LEDs reach end of life, the entire globe unit must be replaced. Contact Niori or Schuller for replacement parts availability.

What's the colour temperature compared to standard warm white LEDs?

At 3200K the Austral produces a warmer light than typical 3000K warm white LEDs. The tone sits between standard warm white and the amber glow of traditional incandescent bulbs, giving a noticeably cosier appearance than cooler LEDs.
