Description

This is the larger of the two Atsu planter stands: a hammered brass bowl 28cm across, carried 78cm off the floor in a frame of square section black iron. The bowl is a half sphere with its rim running slightly out of true where the metal has been worked, and the hammer marks show as shallow facets over the outside and up the inside wall. Four uprights rise to a ring that takes the bowl under its rim, and they cross in an X where they meet the floor.

At 78cm the rim of the bowl comes to about the height of a dining table, so a plant in it stands clear of the furniture around it and reads at head height for anyone sitting down. The bowl holds 7250ml, a little over twice the smaller stand, which takes a plant that has been potted on once or twice rather than a young one.

The bowl is brass and the frame is iron. The hammering is done with traditional tools, so the pattern of marks and the exact line of the rim are different on every bowl. The bowl rests in the ring rather than being fixed into it. It is made for use inside, and the Atsu range also holds the 56cm stand, a hanging pot in two sizes and a planter in three.
