Description

The Atsu is a hanging pot of hammered brass, 12.5cm deep and 14cm across, with a rounded belly that draws in to a narrow flat base and opens again to a straight rim. The hammering is left visible over the whole surface, so the gold catches the light in small facets rather than as one sheet, and the tone is an antiqued brass rather than a bright one. Leather cords run from small loops set just under the rim and are gathered into a knot above the pot, with a second knot tied further up the run.

The pot holds 1700ml and the rim is 14cm across, which takes a plant grown on in a 12cm or 13cm pot. Hung in a window, from a beam, or off a bracket at the end of a run of shelves, it keeps a trailing plant clear of the surface below and puts the foliage at eye level rather than on a sill. It takes a fern standing upright, or a hoya trailing well below the rim.

The pot is brass and the ties are leather. The surface is hammered, so the pattern of facets differs from planter to planter and the antiqued tone settles unevenly across the belly. The Atsu is made as a smaller hanging pot at 9cm deep and 11cm across, and the range also holds a planter in three sizes and a planter stand in two.
