Description

The Asharu small stands 68cm tall on the same 21cm square base as the large, so it is the same footprint at four fifths the height. The lower half is sheet iron and the upper half is glazed on all four sides, under a pitched top with a ring handle that folds flat against it. The patina runs green over brown and no two panels of metal carry it the same way.

Twenty centimetres shorter than the large makes this the one that will stand on a hearth or a wide windowsill as well as on the floor, where the large is a floor piece and nothing else. The two stand together: one base, two heights. It takes a pillar candle.

The frame is iron and the four panels are glass, mouth-blown into a mould from recycled waste glass and then framed in metal. Each panel is blown on its own, so the glass is not perfectly flat and whatever sits behind it shifts as you move past. The candle is not included.
