Description

The Asharu large stands 88cm tall on a base 21cm square. The lower half is solid iron and the upper half is glazed on all four sides, so the candle sits in a glass box carried on a plain column. A hinged ring handle folds flat against the pitched top, and four short feet lift the base clear of the floor. The patina runs green over brown and sits unevenly across every panel.

At 88cm this stands on the floor rather than on a table. A pair stands against a wall beside a console, where the glazed section sits at about the height of a seated eye and the solid base reads as a plinth. It wants a pillar candle rather than a taper: the box is 21cm square and a thin candle would be lost in it.

The frame is iron and the panels are glass, mouth-blown into a mould from recycled waste glass and then framed in metal. The patina is an applied finish, so it varies from lantern to lantern. A 68cm Asharu runs alongside this one. The candle is not included.

Frequently Asked

How tall is it?

88cm, on a base 21cm square.

Does it stand on the floor?

Yes. At 88cm it is made to.

What candle does it take?

A pillar candle. The glazed box is 21cm square, so a taper would be lost in it.

Is there a smaller one?

Yes, at 68cm tall.

How do I look after it?

A soft dry cloth for dust, and a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass. Warm water with a mild dish soap clears wax; dry it straight away and do not soak it. Indoor use only, and it gets hot in use, so let it cool fully before handling it.
