Asana Marble Storage Jar - Grey

The Asana storage jar is turned from grey marble, 11cm tall and 8.5cm across, with a lid that sits down into the top. The whole outside, the lid included, is cut in close hand etched lines that cross one another, so the surface reads as a fine woven texture rather than as polished stone. The marble is a pale grey shot through with darker veins and flecks, and the lid is a shallow dome with a lipped edge.

At 11cm tall and 8.5cm across it holds cotton wool pads, cotton buds and the other small things that otherwise sit loose on a basin surround or a windowsill. It weighs a kilogram, which is heavy for its size and keeps it where it is set down. In our photographs the marble reads a good deal darker and greyer than it does against a white background.

The jar is marble throughout, lid included. The veining is natural, so the depth of the grey and the run of the darker seams differ from jar to jar, and the lines are cut by hand, so their spacing varies as well. The Asana also runs as a pump dispenser and a shallow dish, both in the same grey marble and both etched the same way.
