Asana Marble Soap Dish - Grey

The Asana is a dish cut from a single block of marble, 13cm by 9cm and 2.5cm deep, with the corners drawn into broad curves. The top face is hollowed into a shallow tray, and the four sides are cut with five horizontal grooves that run right round the piece, so the edge reads as a stack of thin ribs rather than a plain wall. The marble is a pale grey shot through with darker banding, and a heavier grey vein can run across the tray.

The tray takes a standard bar laid flat with room round it, and at 2.5cm the dish sits low enough on a basin surround not to crowd a tap or a bottle. On a window ledge above a basin is where the shallow profile tells: from across a room it reads as a slab of stone rather than a dish. Marble is heavy for its size, and at half a kilogram this one stays where it is put.

The marble is natural, so the banding and its direction differ from piece to piece and no two are alike. The tray is hollowed but not drilled or lipped, so what drains off a bar stays in it until it is poured away. The Asana range is cut from the same marble and also holds a lidded storage jar and a pump.

What is it made from?

Natural marble, cut from a single block.

How big is it?

13cm by 9cm, and 2.5cm deep.

Does it drain?

No. The tray is hollowed but has no holes and no lip, so water that runs off the soap sits in it until it is poured away.

Will the marble be the same on every dish?

The shape will. The colour will not match exactly, because the grey banding runs differently through every block.

How do I look after it?

Handle it with care. Marble chips if it is knocked against a hard edge or dropped.
