Description

Armel is a black candle holder in mango wood, 20cm tall and 7cm across, built up from simple geometric parts. A tapered cup at the top holds the candle, three flat rings sit stacked at the waist, and a wide cone flares out to the base, so the outline has the look of a chess piece. Mango makes up 95% of it and iron the other 5%, and the whole holder weighs 0.39KG, light enough to move easily from a shelf to a table.

At 20cm it is a tabletop height, made for a sideboard, a console table in the hallway, a mantelpiece or the centre of a dining table. The grain of the wood shows faintly beneath the black finish, so the holder sits comfortably beside light wood, stone and marble and gives a strong upright line among softer shapes. It takes a slim taper candle, plain or twisted, and a tall taper gives it real height for an evening gathering. Two or three grouped together on a sideboard work well, and one alone suits a bookshelf or a bedside table.
