Aravali 60 x 40cm Wool Cushion Cover - Ochre

A cushion cover 60cm by 40cm, flat woven in wool in the same banded fabric as the Aravali square. An ochre band runs along the top edge and another along the bottom, with an ochre wedge set in the top left and a second in the bottom right. Between them the ground moves through undyed cream and sandy tan, two close rows of short dark dashes cross above the middle, and a wide grey band runs below them. It is supplied as a cover, without an inner.

Sixty by forty is a lumbar size rather than a square, so it sits in the small of the back in an armchair, or along the front of a row of squares on a sofa or a bed. The bands run the long way across the face, so they read as a horizon rather than as stripes. The weave is coarse and the yarn slubby, so each band catches a raking light differently from the one above it.

The yarn is wool blended with recycled polyester, the polyester made from repurposed plastic waste, and the cover is woven on traditional Indian looms. Because the shading is made in the weaving rather than printed on afterwards, no two covers carry the bands in the same places. Aravali is also made as a 50 x 50cm square.

How do I look after it?

Check the label before washing. Many covers and throws are washable, but some fabrics are spot clean only. Lift a spill with an absorbent tissue first, then blot the area with a sponge or a clean folded towel moistened in lukewarm water, and dry it by blowing warm air across the surface from a hair dryer so it does not water mark. Larger and more stubborn stains should be dealt with professionally.
