Description

A square cushion cover 50cm by 50cm, flat woven in wool with the bands running horizontally across the face. Undyed cream and a sandy tan take up most of it, a wide band of grey brown crosses below the middle and two close rows of short dark dashes cross above it. Ochre appears three times: a broad band along the top edge, a narrower one along the bottom, and a wedge in the top left with a second in the bottom right. It is supplied as a cover, without an inner.

The two ochre wedges sit on a diagonal, so the cover reads differently depending on which way up it is set. The weave is coarse and the yarn slubby, so the face catches a raking light along the bands rather than lying flat. At 50cm square it takes the standard cushion size and drops into an existing row on a sofa, an armchair or a bed.

The yarn is wool blended with recycled polyester, the polyester made from repurposed plastic waste, and the cover is woven on traditional Indian looms. Because the banding is made in the weaving rather than printed on afterwards, no two covers carry it in quite the same places. Aravali is also made in a 60 x 40cm rectangle.

Larger and more stubborn stains should be dealt with professionally.
