Description
The Aperta EZ-TAG3B is an IP65-rated proximity and code entry keypad combining a 12-button backlit numeric pad, 125kHz proximity reader, and dual relay controller in a single weatherproof unit. Users gain access by entering a four-digit PIN or presenting a proximity tag within a few inches of the reader, which then activates one of two on-board relays to trigger door releases, magnetic locks, or other access control hardware in separate controlled areas.
Designed for external door entry in residential, commercial and industrial settings, the unit accommodates up to 1,010 users split across two separate groups, with each group assigned to one of the two relays. This allows different access permissions for staff versus contractors, or for controlling two separate doors or zones from a single keypad. The built-in doorbell function provides an alternative entry method for visitors without credentials, outputting a signal that can be wired to a chime or intercom system.
The black polycarbonate housing measures 215mm × 66mm × 66mm and is rated IP65 for outdoor use, protecting the electronics from dust ingress and water jets. The backlit keys remain visible in low light, and the twin LED indicators at the top provide status feedback during operation. Programming is handled on-board without requiring a PC or external software — new tags and PINs are added by entering a master code sequence directly on the keypad. The package includes 10 blue proximity key fobs to get started.
The unit replaces the earlier EZ-TAG-2 model with improved programming workflow, the addition of the doorbell function, and enhanced anti-tamper features. Fail-safe or fail-secure operation is determined by the external power supply configuration, allowing the system to either unlock or remain locked during a power failure depending on the application's safety requirements.

Frequently Asked
How many users can the system store?
The EZ-TAG3B stores up to 1,010 users across two separate groups. Each user can be assigned either a four-digit PIN code, a proximity tag, or both. The two groups are assigned to separate relay outputs, allowing different access permissions or control of two different doors from one keypad.
How are new tags and PIN codes programmed?
Programming is done directly on the keypad by entering a master code sequence, then adding or deleting tags and PINs as needed. No PC or external software is required. The full programming procedure is detailed in the product manual linked in the Downloads section.
Can it be used outdoors?
Yes. The unit carries an IP65 rating, meaning it's protected against dust ingress and water jets from any direction. This makes it suitable for external door entry exposed to rain and weather, though mounting under a porch or canopy will extend service life.
What's the difference between fail-safe and fail-secure?
Fail-safe means the lock releases (unlocks) during a power failure, allowing people to exit freely — typically required for fire safety in commercial buildings. Fail-secure means the lock remains engaged (locked) during power failure. The EZ-TAG3B supports both modes depending on how the external power supply and lock are wired.
