Description
The Aperta A1ML300XT is a 300kg holding force magnetic lock rated IP68 for external door installations, supplied with both Z-bracket and L-bracket mounting hardware. The lock operates on 12V or 24V DC and functions as a fail-safe device, meaning it releases when power is cut, allowing emergency egress during power failures.
Designed for external gates, access-controlled pedestrian doors, fire exits and commercial premises where weather resistance is required, the IP68 rating protects the internal electromagnet and wiring terminals against dust ingress and continuous submersion up to 1m depth. The 300kg holding force secures single-leaf doors weighing up to 80kg when the magnet plate and armature plate are correctly aligned and in full contact.
The lock body measures 305mm x 75mm x 70mm and weighs 3kg, with the magnet housed in a corrosion-resistant metal casing. Both Z and L brackets are included in the box, allowing the lock to be fitted to inward-opening or outward-opening door frames depending on which bracket is used. The fail-safe operation means the lock automatically releases on power loss, fire alarm trigger, or emergency override button activation, meeting UK building regulations for fire exit compliance on access-controlled doors.
The dual-voltage input (12V or 24V DC) allows the lock to integrate with most access control systems without requiring a separate voltage transformer. Installation requires the magnet plate to be fixed to the door frame and the armature plate to the door itself, with both plates aligned within 3mm tolerance for the full 300kg holding force to be achieved. Wiring terminals are accessed via a removable cover on the lock body.

Frequently Asked
What does fail-safe mean on a magnetic lock?
Fail-safe means the lock releases automatically when power is cut, allowing the door to be opened from either side. This is required by UK building regulations for fire exits and emergency egress routes, as it ensures people can escape during a power failure or fire alarm activation.
What is the IP68 rating?
IP68 is the highest dust and water ingress protection rating. The '6' means complete protection against dust, and the '8' means the lock can withstand continuous submersion in water up to 1m depth without internal damage. This makes it suitable for external doors exposed to rain, snow and flooding.
Can this lock be used on both inward and outward opening doors?
Yes. The kit includes both Z-bracket and L-bracket mounting hardware. The Z-bracket is used for outward-opening doors where the magnet plate is mounted on the door frame header and the armature plate on the top of the door. The L-bracket is used for inward-opening doors where the magnet mounts vertically on the frame.
What door weight can this lock secure?
The 300kg holding force will secure single-leaf doors weighing up to 80kg when the magnet and armature plates are correctly aligned and in full contact. Heavier doors or doors subject to wind loading may require a higher holding force model or dual-lock installation.
