Description

A pair of housewife pillowcases, each 50 x 70cm, woven from hemp and organic cotton. The ground is a warm off-white and the stripe is fine, running in narrow pairs of lines across the face of the case. The stripe is woven in rather than printed on, so it shows on both faces, and the sage in it is muted enough to read grey from across a room. The hem is plain, with no border or flap round the edge.

At 50 x 70cm these are the usual size for a UK pillow, so they go on what is already on the bed. The housewife cut finishes flush with the pillow rather than framing it, which is why the case lies flat under a folded sheet instead of standing up at the edge. Hemp and cotton together make a fabric with some body to it rather than a slippery one, and hemp softens with age rather than wearing thin.

The fabric is a blend of hemp and organic cotton, woven in Portugal. Hemp is grown without chemicals and breaks down at the end of its life, and the cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides or genetically modified seed. Each set arrives in a fabric bag, which keeps the pair together in a cupboard or serves as a garment bag. A matching duvet cover is made in three bed sizes.
