Anjuna Large Reactive Glaze Ceramic Vase - Off White

The larger Anjuna vase stands 29.5cm tall and measures 25.5cm across the belly. The body is a full oval that narrows towards the top and then opens again at the mouth, and the rim is left wavering rather than turned true. Carved ovals run in staggered rows around the shoulder and stop about a third of the way down, and the glaze gathers thicker in each of them than it does on the plain surface below.

The mouth is wide and the weight sits low in the base, so long stems stay put without a frog or a liner. It carries a spray of olive that reaches well above the rim, which is the scale of arrangement the proportions take. It holds water because the inside is glazed twice over. It is for indoor use.

The clay is ceramic and the glaze is reactive, so the colour breaks where it thins and gathers where it runs. The off white turns sandy at the foot and across the carving, and a dark line follows the rim where the glaze has drawn back. No two come out alike. The Anjuna vase is made smaller as well, at 23cm.

How big is the vase?

29.5cm tall and 25.5cm across.

Will it hold water?

Yes. Two layers of glaze go on the inside, so it takes water and fresh cut stems.

Will two vases look the same?

No. The glaze is reactive and moves as it fires, so the markings and the depth of colour differ on every piece.

Is there a smaller size?

Yes. The Anjuna vase is also made at 23cm tall and 22cm across.

How should it be looked after?

Wipe it with a soft damp cloth. When it needs more than that, wash it in warm soapy water, and keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off the glaze.
