Description

The Anara is a decanter blown by hand from recycled glass, 27.5cm tall and 23cm across. The body is a wide flattened disc, far broader than it is deep, and a slender neck rises from the centre of it to a ball stopper on a short plug. A band of frosted etching wraps the lower half of the disc, worked in fine horizontal lines that break up where the glass rolls over towards the base. Above the band the glass is clear, and the wall carries the slight waver of hand blown work.

It holds 750ml, one bottle of wine, and the wide shallow body means that volume sits as a broad pool rather than a column. At 23cm across it wants clear space on a table or a tray rather than a narrow shelf, and at 1.78kg it has real weight in the hand before anything goes into it. The frosted band reads as a solid white block and the clear glass above it all but disappears.

The glass is recycled and blown by hand, so the thickness of the wall varies, small bubbles are carried in it, and no two decanters come out the same shape. The etching is done by hand as well, so the lines do not repeat exactly round the body and the upper edge of the frosted band wanders. The Anara range also runs to etched tumblers, wine glasses and champagne glasses, all in clear. The stopper is included.
