Description

A pair of star decorations, each 16cm across, built from cut brass petals set around a central boss. Two rings of petals radiate out, a long outer ring and a shorter inner one, and every petal is folded down its centre line so it stands away from the face and takes the light along the crease. The brass is a warm gold, darker where it turns into the folds. Each star hangs from a fine twisted brass loop.

At 16cm these are large for a tree decoration, so they hang best where there is room around them: at the end of a branch, from a bare twig in a jug, along a mantelpiece or in a window. The folded petals sit shallow enough to hang close to a wall and deep enough to throw a shadow onto it.

The metal is brass throughout. Each star begins as a sheet of solid brass cut into shapes, and the pieces are put together by hand with fine brass wire, so the petals do not sit at identical angles from one star to the next. The Amata range also holds baubles, a hanging star and a tree topper in the same antique brass.
