Description

An oval wall mirror 85cm tall and 52cm wide, set in a narrow cast aluminium frame finished in antique brass. The frame is a slim band that curves over from the wall towards the glass rather than lying flat against it, and its surface is left uneven and lightly textured rather than polished. The back is a black board with a single brass keyhole plate fitted at the top of it.

The mirror hangs portrait from that one plate, so a single fixing carries the whole 5.9kg and has to suit both that weight and the wall behind it. It goes in a hallway, or on the wall above a console table or a chest of drawers, where the 52cm width sits inside the furniture below rather than overhanging it. At 3cm deep the frame stands only just off the wall, so a narrow stretch between two doors will take it as readily as an open run.

The frame is cast aluminium and the glass is the only other material. Casting leaves the surface slightly uneven, so the depth of the brass tone varies around the frame and no two are marked in quite the same way. Almora runs to round and arched mirrors as well, and to a wall mirror in antique nickel, in sizes from extra small to large. This is the only oval in the range.
