Description

The large Almora arched mirror is 111cm wide and 92cm high, wider than it is tall, in a slim cast aluminium frame finished in antique brass. The moulding is rounded on the face with a stepped edge running inside it, and the arch is shallow: the corners rise and the top runs nearly straight between them. The brass is worn through unevenly, brighter where the moulding stands proud and darker and pitted in the hollows.

At 111cm across this is an overmantel mirror, made for the width above a fireplace, a long sideboard, or a dining room wall where there is a whole span to fill. Hung above a chimneypiece, the glass takes most of the room back into it. A single keyhole plate is fitted at the top centre of the back, and the mirror weighs 17.8kg.

The frame is cast aluminium and the glass is mirror. The casting leaves the surface faintly textured and the antique brass takes that texture up, so the frame is mottled rather than even and no two come out the same. The Almora range holds the same arch in a smaller size and in a full length mirror that stands on the floor, along with round, oval and rectangular wall mirrors in antique brass and in antique nickel.
