Almeida Small Ceramic Planter - Olive & Natural

The small Almeida is a ceramic planter, 15.5cm tall and 17.5cm across, drawing in slightly to an opening of 16cm. Two glazes meet on it: an olive green over the upper part of the pot that runs down in vertical streaks, and a cream below it flecked all over with rust brown. Where the two meet the green breaks into drips rather than stopping in a line.

At 15.5cm this is a shelf or desk size rather than a floor one, and it is made for indoors. With a green plant in it, the olive in the glaze picks up the leaves. It suits a windowsill, a kitchen shelf or the corner of a desk, and the planter is made in three sizes so that two or three can stand together.

The planter is ceramic, made in Portugal and glazed by hand. The glaze is reactive, so it moves in the heat of the kiln and settles differently every time: the line at which the olive breaks over the cream falls at a different height on every pot, and the speckling below it is never the same twice. The Almeida planter is also made at 18cm and 22cm tall.

No. It is for indoor use only.

Will every planter look the same?

Not exactly. The glaze is reactive and moves in the kiln, so the point at which the olive breaks over the cream, and the speckling below it, differ on every planter.

Three. This is the small at 15.5cm tall; there is a medium at 18cm and a large at 22cm.

How do I look after it?

Wipe it regularly with a soft, damp cloth, and wash it in warm soapy water when it needs more than that. Harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners will damage the finish.
