Description

The Almeida is a round ceramic planter, 18cm tall and 19.5cm across, with sides that run almost straight before softening into a rounded base. It stands without a foot. Two glazes meet on it, an olive that runs down in streaks from the rim and a paler natural beneath, both of them heavily speckled, and the line where the two meet falls at a different height all the way round. The opening measures 18cm.

At 18cm tall it sits on a console table, a shelf or a wide windowsill rather than on the floor, and the 18cm opening sets the size of plant that will drop into it. Three Almeidas of different heights stand together along a console, which is how the range is meant to be used as much as singly. It is for indoor use.

The pot is ceramic and glazed by hand. A reactive glaze moves as the kiln heats it, so the streaking and the speckle come out differently on every pot and no two are alike. Almeida is made in three sizes, 15.5cm, 18cm and 22cm tall.

Frequently Asked

What size plant will it take?

The opening is 18cm across and the pot stands 18cm tall, so a plant in a pot of up to 18cm will drop into it.

Can it go outside?

No. It is for indoor use.

What sizes are there?

Three. This is the medium at 18cm tall; the others stand 15.5cm and 22cm.

Will every pot look the same?

Not exactly. The glaze is reactive and shifts in the kiln, so the streaking and the speckle are different on every pot.

How do I look after it?

Wipe it over with a soft damp cloth, and wash it in warm soapy water when more is needed. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off it, as they can damage the finish.
