Description

The large Almeida is a ceramic planter 22cm tall and 23.5cm across, the biggest of the three. The wall rises almost straight from a rounded base and stops at a plain rim with no lip. An olive glaze is poured from the top and runs down in vertical streaks, breaking into a dense speckle where it thins, and below it the body is a pale natural, itself flecked all over. The mouth measures 22cm.

All three Almeidas line up along a console table, and this one takes the largest plant. The 22cm mouth takes a plant that the two smaller sizes would crowd. The range is made to be grouped as much as used singly, and at 22cm this one sets the height for the group. It is for indoor use.

Every pot is glazed by hand and then fired, and the reactive glaze finds its own line in the kiln, so the point at which the olive gives way to the natural sits higher on one pot than on another and the speckle gathers in different places. Almeida runs from 15.5cm up to this one.

Frequently Asked

How wide is the opening?

22cm. The pot itself measures 23.5cm across at the widest point.

Is this the biggest size?

Yes. Almeida is made in three and this is the largest.

Can it go outdoors?

No. It is for indoor use.

Does every pot look the same?

No. The glaze is reactive, so where the olive stops and the natural begins is different on every pot.

How do I look after it?

A soft damp cloth is enough for most marks and warm soapy water for the rest. Harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners will damage the glaze, so keep them off it.
