Description

The Akoli is a wall light that plugs into a socket rather than being wired in. A rectangular brass plate fixes to the wall on two visible bolts, a brass arm arcs over from the top of it, and a fluted glass cone hangs from the end with the wide opening pointing down. The glass is clear and ribbed the whole way from the rim to the apex. The rust coloured cord drops from under the shade with a switch on it. It stands 28cm tall and 24cm wide.

Because it plugs in, it goes up without rewiring and without an electrician: beside a bed where there is a socket behind the table, beside a mirror, in an alcove. Lit, the bulb is visible through the flutes. The cone throws its light down and the ribbing breaks it up on the way out. It takes one E27 bulb up to 25W, the cord runs 2.5m, the plug is UK and EU, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The shade is glass made from waste glass, collected and washed, then crushed, melted and mouth blown into a mould, which is what forms the flutes. The arm and the wall plate are aluminium under an antique brass finish, and the flex is rust coloured.
