Description

The Akoko small is a wide lantern, 43cm tall, 40cm across and 17cm deep, so it is broader than it is tall. The lower third is solid iron and the section above it is glazed on all four sides. A row of round holes is pierced through the band beneath the pitched roof, and a flat handle folds down over the top. Four short feet lift it clear of the floor.

Forty centimetres of width takes a wide pillar candle, or several standing together, which a narrow lantern will not. Stood on the floor, the solid base holds the flame at about knee height. At 2.9kg it moves by its handle rather than needing two hands.

The frame is iron and the panels are glass. Each lantern starts as flat sheet, cut, heated, hand-shaped and welded before the finish goes on, so the patina sits differently on every panel and the welds stay visible at the corners. A 63cm Akoko runs alongside this one. The candle is not included.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

43cm tall, 40cm across and 17cm deep.

What candle does it take?

A pillar candle, or several. The glazed section is 40cm wide.

Is there a larger one?

Yes, at 63cm tall on the same 40cm width.

Can it go outside?

No. Indoor use only.

How do I look after it?

A soft dry cloth for dust, and a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass. Warm water with a mild dish soap clears wax; dry it straight away and do not soak it. It gets hot in use, so let it cool fully before handling it.
