Description

The Akoko large stands 63cm tall on the same 40cm by 17cm footprint as the small, so the extra height goes entirely into the glazed section. The base is solid iron, the four sides above it are glazed, and a band of round piercings runs beneath the pitched roof. The handle folds flat over the top. At 5.5kg it is close to twice the weight of the small.

Sixty-three centimetres puts the flame at about the height of a low table, so this one reads across a room where the small reads from the chair beside it. The width is unchanged at 40cm, so it takes the same candles.

The frame is iron and the panels are glass. Every lantern is cut from flat sheet, heated, shaped and welded by hand before the finish is applied, so the patina varies from panel to panel and the welded corners stay visible. A 43cm Akoko runs alongside this one. The candle is not included.

Frequently Asked

How tall is it?

63cm, on a base 40cm by 17cm.

How does it compare with the small Akoko?

The same width and depth, 20cm taller: 63cm against 43cm, and 5.5kg against 2.9kg.

What candle does it take?

A pillar candle, or several across the 40cm width.

Can it go outside?

No. Indoor use only.

How do I look after it?

A soft dry cloth for dust, and a microfibre cloth in a circular motion on the glass. Warm water with a mild dish soap clears wax; dry it straight away and do not soak it. It gets hot in use, so let it cool fully before handling it.
