Description

The Akki is a 50 x 50cm cushion cover woven from a blend of wool and cotton. Six pale oat blocks with softly rounded corners sit on an ochre ground in two staggered rows of three, overlapping where the rows meet so the pattern interlocks rather than sitting in a grid, and a short ochre bar cuts across the middle of each block. The weave is flat and visibly done by hand, with the ochre drifting lighter and darker down the face and the oat blocks breaking up into loose vertical striping.

At 50 x 50cm this is the square size in the range, which suits the back of a sofa or an armchair where a cushion stands upright against the frame rather than lying along the seat. The pale blocks read as raw oat in even light and closer to cream when they are lit from the front.

The yarn is a blend of wool and cotton, woven on traditional handlooms, so the edges of the blocks and the density of the weave shift a little from cover to cover. Akki also runs as a 60 x 40cm rectangle, in this ochre and in dusty pink. This is the cover on its own and the inner pad is not included.
