Description

This is a lidded storage jar in cream stoneware, with a round, almost globe-shaped body and a domed lid topped by a small sculpted bird that doubles as the handle. Around the body sits a scatter of little motifs, among them a pear, a lemon, a mushroom, a sun, a rainbow, a cloud and a bee, each slightly raised from the glaze. It stands 15cm tall, measures 12cm across and holds 590ml, which makes it a compact jar for a counter or a shelf rather than a large canister. At 0.612KG it is easy to lift down with one hand.

It is approved for food, so in the kitchen it makes a handy jar for sugar beside the kettle, tea bags, or a stash of biscuits and sweets within reach. The cheerful motifs and the bird on top also make it, to our eye, a natural fit for a child's room or a nursery shelf, where it can keep hair clips, crayons or little treasures in one place. On a bathroom shelf it would hold cotton pads or hair ties just as happily.
