Description

The Affiti is an urn-shaped planter in unglazed clay, 49cm tall and 33cm across at its widest. The body rises from a narrow foot, swells out to a broad shoulder and then draws in again to a short rolled collar at the rim. The surface is mottled rather than even, grey running over patches of ochre and a pale mineral bloom, and the wall carries the faint horizontal ridges of the coils it was built from.

At 49cm this stands on the ground rather than on a table. A larger pot is made in the same range. It suits a doorway, the corner of a patio or the turn of a path. There are holes in the base for drainage, so it can be planted into directly rather than used to hold a nursery pot inside it.

The pot is clay, built by hand in Vietnam using traditional coiling, and nothing is applied over it. The raw surface takes its tone unevenly, so the grey runs lighter and darker across one pot and no two are alike. The Affiti range runs to a larger pot of the same shape at 66cm, and to two wider planters at 30cm and 40cm tall.

Frequently Asked

Can it stay outside over winter?

The pot is frost proof. It is still best stored away or brought inside over the winter months.

Does it have drainage holes?

Yes. There are holes in the base of every pot.

How do I look after it?

Wash it at least twice a year with warm soapy water so that dust, dirt and mould do not build up. Because the clay is a natural material and the pot is made by hand, some variation in colour is to be expected.

How heavy is it?

9.6kg empty.

Is a plant included?

No. The pot is sold on its own.
