Abe Deconstructed Velvet Armchair - Moss

An armchair built on an exposed mango wood frame, 90.6cm high, 80cm wide and 74.5cm deep. The seat, the back and the rolled arms are upholstered in cotton velvet in a deep moss that reads close to charcoal in low light, and the wooden base is left pale and unpainted, edged all round with a line of studs. The front legs are turned, and the sides of the frame are open, so the wood runs through the chair rather than disappearing under the upholstery. A separate velvet support cushion sits loose against the back.

This is a wide chair rather than a tall one: 80cm across the arms and 74.5cm front to back, so it wants clear floor on either side and will not tuck into a corner the way a narrower armchair does. The seat is deep and the back cushion is loose rather than fixed. It takes up to 120kg.

The frame is mango wood, left with its own grain and colour and finished smooth rather than distressed. The upholstery is cotton velvet, which takes the light differently along the pile, so the same moss reads lighter across the seat than down the arms. The studded band runs the full width of the base at the front and along both sides.
