Description

The large Abari is a round zinc bowl 39.5cm across and 16cm deep, carried on three chains that meet at a hook. The profile is a shallow curve with a rolled rim and no foot under it. On this one the weathering has gone further than grey: there are green patches through the mottle as well as the orange brown, heaviest where the sides meet the base. A hole is pierced in that base.

39.5cm is wide enough to take several plants in one bowl rather than a single one in the middle, including trailing stems that fall over the rim, and both sizes hang well side by side from a rail. It is made for outdoor use, and the pierced base means water passes through rather than collecting at the bottom.

The bowl is zinc. The aged rust finish is not a fixed one; it carries on changing once the planter is outside, so the pattern on it in a year will not be the pattern it arrives with. Abari is made in two sizes, this one and a smaller bowl at 32cm.

Frequently Asked

How wide is it?

39.5cm across and 16cm deep. The smaller Abari is 32cm across.

Will water drain out of it?

Yes. The base is pierced with a hole.

Can it stay outdoors?

Yes. It is made for outdoor use, and the aged finish goes on weathering while it is out there.

How is it hung?

From three chains fixed to the rim and gathered at a single hook.

Why does it look rusty?

That is the finish. The bowl is zinc with an aged rust finish laid on it, and the mottling is different on every one.
