Description

The large Abari is 54cm tall and 32cm across. Its cage is shaped like a bottle: a narrow cylindrical neck at the top, banded by two horizontal hoops, flaring out in a long curve into a deep round bowl. A zinc pot with a rounded base sits down inside that bowl, held by a hoop at its own rim, with the cage rods passing down the outside and closing under it. The zinc is a pale grey green mottled with ochre and the whole cage is finished rust. A ring at the top of the neck takes a black chain with an open hook at the far end.

It holds 5000ml and the pot has holes in the base, so it hangs where drips are not a problem: off a bracket on an outside wall, a pergola, a porch beam or a sturdy branch. It is suitable for outdoor use. The chain and the open hook let the drop be set to whatever the fixing allows, and the narrow neck of the cage keeps the chain clear of the planting. The small Abari is 43cm tall and 28cm across and holds 4000ml.

The pot is zinc and the cage is iron. Both finishes are made to weather further outdoors, so the grey of the zinc and the rust on the iron deepen from where they start. The patina is laid by hand and falls differently on every pot. The Abari also runs as a round hanging planter, a wall hung planter, a tapered planter and a planter stand.
