Description

A square cushion cover 50cm by 50cm, flat woven in wool over a rust ground. The colour is not laid in flat: it drifts from brick through terracotta to pale sand across the width, with patches of grey green breaking through it, and a line of short cream bars crosses the face above the middle. A pale oatmeal band runs along the top edge, a wider band of coarser, chunkier weave crosses near the bottom, and a dark grey brown band closes the lower edge. It is supplied as a cover, without an inner.

The bands run across the width, and the dark band at the foot reads as a base, which gives the cover an orientation that a plain cushion does not have. The weave changes as well as the colour: the rust is close and flat while the oatmeal band near the bottom is coarser and stands proud of it, so the face takes a raking light two different ways. At 50cm square it is the standard size for a sofa or a bed.

The yarn is wool blended with recycled polyester, the polyester made by turning plastic waste into a lasting yarn, and the cover is woven on traditional Indian handlooms. Because the shading is made in the weaving rather than printed on afterwards, no two covers carry the drifts and the grey green patches in the same places. Aakash is also made as a 60 x 40cm rectangle.

Frequently Asked

What size is it?

50cm by 50cm.

Is an inner included?

No. This is the cover on its own.

What is it made from?

Wool blended with recycled polyester, woven on traditional handlooms in India. The polyester is made by turning plastic waste into yarn.

Is there a rectangular version?

Yes, at 60 x 40cm.

Is it colourfast?

Yes. Cushion covers and throws are tested for colourfastness.

How do I look after it?

Check the label before washing. Many covers and throws are washable, but some fabrics are spot clean only. Lift a spill with an absorbent tissue first, then blot the area with a sponge or a clean folded towel moistened in lukewarm water, and dry it by blowing warm air across the surface from a hair dryer so it does not water mark. Larger and more stubborn stains should be dealt with professionally.
