Description
The Knightsbridge 32A key card switch activates lighting and power circuits when a key card is inserted into the slot at the top of the faceplate, and disconnects power 20 seconds after the card is removed. The switch carries a 32A rating, handling up to 7,360W on a 230V circuit, which covers combined loads from lighting, socket circuits, air conditioning, and appliances in a hotel room or serviced apartment.
Designed for hospitality installation, the switch provides automatic energy management by cutting standby power when rooms are unoccupied. The backlit arrow below the card slot remains illuminated when the room is powered, guiding guests in low light. The 20-second delay allows occupants to remove their card briefly without immediately cutting power, preventing accidental disconnection when retrieving the card from a pocket or bag.
The white faceplate carries an anti-microbial treatment that inhibits bacterial growth on the surface, addressing hygiene concerns in high-turnover environments. The plate is moulded from thermoset resin with a gently contoured profile at 7mm thickness, projecting 19.3mm from the wall when fitted to a standard back box. The switch requires a minimum 47mm mounting box depth and is certified to EN 60669-1 for commercial installation.

Frequently Asked
How does the power disconnection work?
Power is supplied to the connected circuits when a key card is inserted. When the card is removed, the switch waits 20 seconds before cutting power, allowing time for the occupant to reinsert the card if removed accidentally. The delay prevents immediate disconnection when retrieving a card from clothing or bags.
What load can a 32A rating handle?
On a 230V circuit, 32A supports up to 7,360W combined load. This covers typical hotel room circuits including lighting, socket outlets, air conditioning units, kettles, hairdryers, and mini-fridges running simultaneously.
What back box depth is required?
The switch requires a minimum 47mm mounting box depth. Standard UK 47mm boxes are suitable. The switch projects 19.3mm from the wall once fitted, with 29.1mm recessed behind the faceplate.
What does the anti-microbial treatment do?
The treatment inhibits bacterial growth on the faceplate surface. This addresses hygiene concerns in hospitality environments where multiple guests handle the switch daily. The treatment does not replace cleaning but reduces bacterial colonisation between cleaning cycles.
