Description

The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang double pole switch controls fixed appliances such as water heaters, immersion heaters and underfloor heating systems from a single rocker behind a polished chrome rounded-edge faceplate. The 20A rating handles loads up to 4,600W on 230V mains, while the double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the switch is off, providing additional safety for high-powered permanent installations.

Designed for residential and light commercial installation, the switch fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and uses a premium-grade steel faceplate with an integrated gasket that sits flush to the wall. The rounded-edge profile softens the corners of the plate, giving a less angular finish than traditional square-edge switches. The metal rocker is colour-matched to the polished chrome plate, creating a unified surface with no contrasting plastic components.

What appliances is this switch suitable for?

The 20A rating makes it suitable for fixed appliances such as water heaters, immersion heaters, underfloor heating systems and other permanent installations up to 4,600W at 230V. It is not intended for portable appliances or standard socket circuits.

What does double pole switching mean?

Double pole switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is turned off, rather than just the live line as in single-pole switches. This provides additional safety for high-powered fixed appliances by fully disconnecting the circuit.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 25mm mounting box depth is required for safe installation. The faceplate adds 7.5mm of projection from the wall once fitted, so the total depth from the back of the box to the face of the switch will be approximately 32.5mm.

Can this be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor areas away from direct water spray. It can be used in bathrooms for controlling underfloor heating or an immersion heater, provided it is installed outside zones 0, 1 and 2 as defined in BS 7671 wiring regulations.
