Description
The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang DP switch is a double pole isolator designed for fixed appliances drawing up to 4,600W on 230V mains, including water heaters, electric towel rails and storage heaters. The switch breaks both live and neutral lines when turned off, providing full isolation for maintenance or appliance replacement. The polished chrome faceplate measures 87.5mm square with a 2.5mm projection from the wall, making it one of the flattest switches in the Knightsbridge range.
Designed for residential and light commercial installation, the switch fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and uses screw fixings visible at each corner of the faceplate. The flat plate design sits nearly flush with the wall surface, reducing snag points in kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms where appliance switches are typically located near worktops or behind furniture. An integrated gasket between the plate and the wall improves dust resistance and creates a neater finish on uneven plaster.
The polished chrome finish is a high-reflectivity electroplated coating on premium-grade steel, providing a mirror-like surface that pairs well with chrome taps, radiator valves and other metallic fittings common in kitchens and bathrooms. The matching chrome rocker switch sits within a black insert behind the faceplate, giving a defined edge to the switching mechanism. The switch carries IP20 rating for indoor dry locations and is certified to EN 60669-1.

Frequently Asked
What appliances is a 20A DP switch used for?
The 20A rating handles fixed appliances drawing up to 4,600W at 230V, including water heaters, electric towel rails, storage heaters and some oven circuits. The double pole switching isolates both live and neutral, providing full electrical isolation when servicing the appliance.
What does DP mean?
DP stands for double pole. A double pole switch breaks both the live and the neutral conductors when switched off, whereas a single pole switch breaks only the live. Double pole is required for certain fixed appliances to meet safety regulations.
Is this switch suitable for bathrooms?
The IP20 rating means this switch is for indoor dry locations only. In bathrooms it must be installed outside the designated zones (typically outside Zone 2, more than 600mm from the edge of a bath or shower tray). For in-zone installation, an IP44-rated pull cord switch is required.
What other finishes are available in this range?
Knightsbridge produces this flat plate style in multiple finishes including brushed chrome, matt black, polished brass, antique brass and white. Use the search function or filters to find other variants in stock at Niori.
