20A 1 Gang DP Switch Neon - Brushed Chrome Screwless

The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang DP switch isolates both live and neutral lines with a single rocker action, designed for controlling fixed appliances rated up to 20A at 230V — immersion heaters, water heaters, towel rails and similar permanently-wired loads. A red neon indicator above the rocker glows when the switch is in the 'on' position, providing visible confirmation from across a room that the appliance is energised.

The screwless faceplate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, leaving no visible screws or fixings on the wall once installed. The brushed chrome finish is applied to premium-grade steel, giving a low-sheen metallic surface that resists fingerprints and pairs cleanly with contemporary bathroom and utility room installations. The 87.5mm square plate projects just 4.3mm from the wall when fitted.

Double pole switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when turned off, providing a higher level of isolation than single-pole switches where only the live is broken. This makes DP switches the preferred choice for appliances where accidental re-energisation could present a safety risk. The switch fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth and is certified to EN 60669-1. The rocker is colour-matched to the brushed chrome finish rather than being a contrasting black or white insert.

What appliances is this switch suitable for?

The 20A rating handles fixed appliances up to 4,600W at 230V, including immersion heaters, water heaters, towel rails, extractor fans and similar permanently-wired loads. It is not intended for plug-in appliances — use a socket outlet for those.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon glows when the switch is in the 'on' position, providing visible confirmation that the appliance is energised. This is particularly useful for appliances like immersion heaters where it's not otherwise obvious whether they are running.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The screwless faceplate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame that is fixed to the back box with screws, so ensure the back box is deep enough to accommodate both the wiring and the sub-frame without compression.

Is the screwless plate removable for redecorating?

Yes. The brushed chrome cover plate clips onto the sub-frame and can be removed without disconnecting any wiring. This allows you to paint around the switch and re-clip the plate once the work is complete.
