Description

The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang DP switch combines a double-pole isolator rated at 20AX with a red neon indicator and a base-mounted flex outlet behind a white anti-microbial faceplate. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when switched off, providing full circuit isolation for high-draw appliances such as water heaters, immersion heaters and commercial kitchen equipment.

Designed for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, care homes, schools and hospitality environments where hygiene standards matter, the anti-microbial surface treatment inhibits bacterial growth on the faceplate itself. The neon indicator glows red when the circuit is live, providing a visual confirmation that the supply is active even when the connected appliance is not drawing current. The flex outlet at the base of the plate accepts cable from appliances mounted directly below the switch, eliminating the need for a separate connection box.

The 10mm contoured faceplate uses thermoset resin construction with rounded edges that are easier to clean than sharp corners, and screw cap covers conceal the fixing points once installed. The white finish suits clinical, educational and domestic settings where a neutral appearance is needed. The plate fits standard 25mm minimum back boxes and carries a 25-year guarantee covering materials and workmanship.

Frequently Asked

What is the anti-microbial treatment?

The white thermoset resin faceplate carries an anti-microbial surface treatment that inhibits bacterial growth on contact. This is particularly useful in kitchens, bathrooms, care homes and other environments where hygiene standards are important. The treatment is embedded in the material and does not wear off with normal cleaning.

What is the flex outlet used for?

The flex outlet at the base of the plate accepts the cable from an appliance mounted directly below the switch, such as a wall-mounted water heater or hand dryer. This eliminates the need for a separate connection box and gives a cleaner installation where the appliance cable enters the back of the switch plate itself.

Why does the neon stay on when the appliance is off?

The neon indicates that the circuit is live, not that the appliance is drawing current. When the switch is on, the neon glows red to confirm that power is available at the outlet. This is a safety feature allowing you to verify at a glance that the circuit is energised.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The switch plate projects 14.5mm from the wall once fitted, with 13.8mm recessed into the box.
