Description
The Knightsbridge GDM150ISB is a 2-way intelligent dimmer module designed for the Knightsbridge grid wiring system, compatible with Screwless, Flat Plate, Raised Edge and Metal Clad grid configurations. The module switches between leading edge and trailing edge modes using a recessed toggle, allowing it to dim incandescent, mains halogen, low-voltage halogen with electronic transformers, and dimmable LED lamps. The dimmer handles 10-150W for incandescent and halogen loads, and 5-150W for dimmable LEDs.
The module uses push on/off control combined with rotary dimming, mounted on a compact 25mm-wide grid plate that fits a standard 35mm minimum back box depth. The smoked bronze finish on the rotary knob and faceplate provides a darker metallic tone that pairs with contemporary, industrial and warm-toned interiors. The 2-way switching capability allows the dimmer to be controlled from two separate switch positions, suited to rooms with multiple entry points such as hallways, staircases and living rooms with two doorways.
The module includes overload protection, over-temperature protection and an inrush current limiter to manage the initial power draw when switching multiple lamps on simultaneously. Knightsbridge recommends limiting the dimmer to a maximum of 10-12 lamps per circuit to prevent inrush current issues that can trip protection or shorten the dimmer's operational life. The steel and ABS construction gives the module physical durability during installation and use, with the IP20 rating indicating suitability for dry indoor environments only.

Frequently Asked
What is the difference between leading edge and trailing edge dimming?
Leading edge dimming cuts power at the start of each AC cycle and works best with incandescent and mains-voltage halogen lamps. Trailing edge dimming cuts power at the end of each AC cycle and is typically smoother for dimmable LEDs and electronic transformers. This dimmer switches between both modes using a recessed toggle, allowing it to handle both lamp types on the same circuit.
Can this dimmer be used in a 2-way switching setup?
Yes. The module is designed for 2-way switching, meaning it can be controlled from two separate switch positions. This suits hallways, staircases and rooms with multiple entry points where switching from either end is needed.
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 35mm back box depth is needed for safe installation. The module itself has a recessed depth of 22mm and a projection of 23mm from the wall once the grid plate is fitted.
How many LED bulbs can this dimmer control?
Knightsbridge recommends limiting the dimmer to a maximum of 10-12 lamps per circuit to prevent inrush current issues when switching on. The total load must not exceed 150W for incandescent/halogen or 150W for dimmable LEDs.
