Description
The Knightsbridge GDM150IAT is a 2-way intelligent dimmer module finished in anthracite, designed to fit the Knightsbridge Grid wiring system. The module switches automatically between leading-edge and trailing-edge dimming modes depending on the load type connected, supporting 10-150W for incandescent and mains-voltage halogen lamps, and 5-150W for dimmable LED lamps. The rotary knob provides dimming control while a push-action on the same knob switches the circuit on and off.
Designed for installation into Knightsbridge grid plates (Screwless, Flat Plate, Raised Edge, Metal Clad), the module occupies one grid position and requires a minimum 35mm back box depth. The 2-way configuration allows the dimmer to be wired in parallel with a standard 2-way switch elsewhere on the circuit, so the lighting can be controlled from two separate locations. Overload and over-temperature protection cut power automatically if the load exceeds the dimmer's rating or if internal components overheat during operation.
The anthracite finish is a dark grey with a subtle metallic sheen, sitting between matt black and brushed steel in tone. The module's steel and ABS construction provides durability in residential and light commercial installations. An inrush current limiter inside the module manages the initial surge when multiple LED or halogen lamps are switched on simultaneously, reducing stress on both the dimmer and the lamps. Knightsbridge recommends limiting the number of lamps on a single dimmer to 10-12 units to avoid inrush current issues, even if the total wattage remains within the 150W maximum.

Frequently Asked
What does 'intelligent' mean for this dimmer?
The dimmer automatically detects whether the connected load requires leading-edge or trailing-edge dimming and switches mode accordingly. This removes the need to manually configure the dimmer for different lamp types.
Can this be used with non-dimmable LED bulbs?
No. The dimmer is only compatible with lamps explicitly rated as dimmable. Using it with non-dimmable LEDs can cause flickering, premature lamp failure, or damage to the dimmer module.
What does 2-way configuration allow?
2-way wiring allows the dimmer to be installed in parallel with a standard 2-way switch on the same circuit, so the lighting can be controlled from two separate locations. One location dims, the other switches on/off.
Why is there a 10-12 lamp limit when the wattage allows more?
LED and low-voltage halogen lamps generate a high inrush current when first switched on. Even if the total wattage is well below 150W, connecting more than 10-12 lamps can exceed the inrush current limiter's capacity and cause the dimmer to trip or fail prematurely.
