Description

The Knightsbridge 2-gang surface box is a polycarbonate housing designed for surface-mounting electrical switches, sockets and dimmers where flush installation into a wall is not practical. The brushed chrome finish matches Knightsbridge's screwless and flat plate ranges, allowing the surface box itself to blend with the faceplate rather than contrast against it.

Surface boxes are typically used on solid walls where chasing out for a flush back box would be difficult, on tiled surfaces in kitchens and bathrooms, in commercial installations where surface wiring is preferred, and in retrofit projects where running cables through existing walls is not viable. The 152.5mm width and 92.5mm height accommodate standard 2-gang UK plates, while the 32mm internal depth provides clearance for cable entry and termination without forcing wires into tight bends.

The polycarbonate construction provides impact resistance rated to IP20, making the box suitable for dry indoor locations but not for wet or outdoor environments. The brushed chrome finish on the exterior gives a consistent metallic tone across the wall plate and surrounding box when paired with matching Knightsbridge faceplates. The box includes internal knockouts for cable entry on all four sides and the rear face, with no earth terminal provided as standard.

Frequently Asked

What Knightsbridge plates fit this surface box?

This box accepts all 2-gang Knightsbridge screwless and flat plate products including switches, sockets, dimmers and USB sockets. The brushed chrome finish is designed to match the corresponding brushed chrome faceplates in those ranges.

Can this be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means the box is suitable for dry indoor locations only. It cannot be used in bathroom zones where water spray or high humidity is present. For bathroom installations an IP-rated enclosure would be required.

Does it include an earth terminal?

No. The specification confirms no earth terminal is provided. If earthing continuity is required, a separate earth connection must be made within the box using appropriate terminals or connectors.

How is the box fixed to the wall?

The box includes mounting holes for screw fixing to the wall surface. Suitable fixings depend on the wall type (masonry, plasterboard, tile backer board) and should be selected accordingly. The box is then secured before the faceplate is fitted over it.
