Description

Two network ports sit behind a screwless plate, finished in a deep plum that takes a wall away from the usual white. It accepts Cat 5 and Cat 6 cabling, so a desktop computer and a printer, games console or access point can each have their own connection at the same position. The cover clips on over the plate, leaving a flat face with no screw heads showing.

We keep this for studies, home offices and media walls, the places where wireless alone starts to struggle once video calls, backups and large downloads are all running at once. It is one we reach for when both leads need to land in the same spot behind a desk or a television, rather than running a switch out into the open. It suits anyone turning a spare bedroom into a proper workspace, or wiring a house so that the fixed kit stays hard connected and the wireless is left for phones and tablets. The fitting works on low voltage data circuits and belongs indoors.

Plate and cover are moulded in ABS with the colour running through the material, so knocks and scuffs show less than they would on a sprayed surface. Dust and marks come off with a dry cloth; for fingerprints near the ports, use a cloth wrung out in plain water and let everything dry before use, and keep polishes and solvents well away from the plum. It carries a ten year warranty. Plum is a colour we would use sparingly and deliberately, as the one moment of shade in a room of otherwise quiet fittings, and it looks best against pale plaster, warm greys or a papered wall with a little depth to it.
