Ocean blue is not a colour you often see on a data plate, and that is rather the point. This is a screwless flat plate with two data sockets on its face, taking Cat 5 and Cat 6 cable for a wired network connection. It works on low voltage data circuits only, with no mains power passing through it, so it sits in the quiet corner of the electrical world where the only thing travelling is signal. The face is flat and unbroken, which keeps a coloured plate looking deliberate rather than busy.

We reach for a plate like this in a study, a home office or a media wall where a hard connection beats wireless: a desktop machine, a games console, a streaming box, a printer that drops off the network the moment the router sneezes. Two positions on one plate mean a desk and a shelf can both be served from the same spot. It suits anyone building out a wired house who would rather the plates read as part of the room's palette than disappear into magnolia by default. Indoor rooms only, and dry ones at that; a kitchen or a hallway is fine, a shower room is not.

The plate is moulded in ABS, which is light in the hand and holds the ocean blue colour right through the material rather than sitting on top of it as a coating. To clean, take a dry cloth to the face and the edges; if something sticky has landed on it, a barely damp cloth will do, then dry it off, and keep polishes, solvents and abrasive creams well away. It carries a ten year warranty. Where a room already has coloured plates, we would keep the data socket in the same tone rather than dropping a white one into the middle of the wall.
