Description

A double socket and a fast charger in one screwless plate, this frees the sockets for appliances while phones and tablets take their power from the USB-C ports below. USB-C suits most recent phones, tablets and headphones without an adaptor. Each socket takes a 13A plug and has its own rocker, and the pair of charging ports share 24W between them. The face carries no visible screws, and the carbon fibre finish is a fine woven texture with a soft sheen, set off by chrome detailing.

We reach for this where a single socket has to do double duty: a bedside table, a desk, or a kitchen worktop where the kettle and the phone both want a home. It suits a home office particularly well, since a laptop, monitor and charging cable rarely leave room for adaptor blocks. The rockers let you cut power to a charger without pulling anything out, which is handy in a child's bedroom or a guest room.

The plate is moulded polycarbonate with metal inside, and the textured finish gives it grip and hides fingerprints better than a gloss face. Wipe it with a dry cloth now and then; if something sticky lands on it, a barely damp cloth will do, and keep kitchen sprays and solvents off the texture. It is wired to a household mains supply and belongs in dry indoor rooms, away from splashes. It carries a ten year warranty. Carbon fibre reads dark and quiet against pale walls or grey paintwork, and it is a finish we would choose for a media wall or a study rather than a period sitting room.
