Description

The Knightsbridge 2-gang blanking plate covers unused or redundant double-gang electrical back boxes behind a brushed chrome faceplate with a rounded edge profile. The plate is constructed from premium-grade steel with an integrated rubber gasket that seals against the wall surface, preventing dust ingress and concealing any gap between the plate and the plaster.

Designed for residential, commercial and hospitality installations where back boxes have been left in place after socket or switch removal, or where future electrical outlets are planned but not yet fitted. The rounded edge profile sits 7.5mm proud of the wall once installed, creating a softer visual transition than flat-edged plates. The brushed chrome finish provides a mid-tone metallic surface that pairs with both warm and cool interior schemes.

The plate includes an earth terminal for safe connection to the back box earthing point, meeting Class I electrical safety requirements. The IP20 rating confirms protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm and makes the plate suitable for standard indoor environments. The plate fits standard UK 2-gang (double-gang) back boxes with 146mm centre spacing. The faceplate dimensions are 146.5mm wide by 85.75mm high, covering the full aperture of a double-gang back box flush with the wall.

Is the earth terminal required to be connected?

Yes. The blanking plate is Class I and includes an earth terminal that must be connected to the back box earthing point during installation, even though the plate itself is non-functional. This maintains electrical safety continuity within the circuit.

What's the difference between rounded edge and flat edge plates?

Rounded edge plates have a gently contoured profile that sits 7.5mm proud of the wall, creating a softer visual transition. Flat edge plates sit closer to the wall with sharper corners. The choice is aesthetic rather than functional.

Can this be painted over?

Painting over blanking plates is not recommended as it may interfere with the gasket seal and can obscure the earth terminal connection point. If the plate needs to be removed later for access or replacement, painted fixings are more difficult to work with.
