Description
The Knightsbridge 18W outdoor eyelid bulkhead combines a 360mm die-cast aluminium housing with an integrated emergency lighting function and CCT-switchable LED gear tray. The eyelid hood directs light downward and forward while shielding the diffuser from direct overhead view, reducing glare for pedestrians and neighbouring properties. The emergency function provides maintained, non-maintained or switched backup operation during mains power failure.
Designed for external wall mounting on building perimeters, covered walkways, service entrances and commercial loading areas, the bulkhead carries IP65 protection against dust ingress and water jets from any direction. The die-cast aluminium body and anti-vandal construction suit public access areas where impact resistance matters. The CCT gear tray allows selection between 3000K warm white (1020lm), 4000K neutral white (1080lm) and 6000K cool white (1090lm) at installation, giving flexibility to match existing site lighting or task requirements.
The opal polycarbonate diffuser spreads light across a 110° beam angle, providing broad coverage without hot-spotting. The SMD LED array runs on a constant current driver rated for 50,000 hours to L70B50, meaning the LED maintains at least 70% of initial output for the rated lifespan under typical operating conditions. The black powder-coated finish resists UV degradation and pairs cleanly with most building materials and architectural styles. The fitting draws 18W on mains power and delivers 105-120lm in emergency mode depending on CCT selection.

Frequently Asked
How does the emergency function work?
The bulkhead includes an internal battery that charges during normal mains operation. In the event of power failure, the fitting switches to emergency mode and provides 105-120lm of output depending on the selected CCT. Emergency modes include maintained (always on), non-maintained (activates only on power loss), and switched (controlled by external switch). The emergency battery is not covered by the 5-year warranty.
What colour temperature options are available?
The CCT gear tray offers three settings: 3000K warm white (1020lm), 4000K neutral white (1080lm), and 6000K cool white (1090lm). The selection is made via a switch on the gear tray during installation and cannot be adjusted afterwards without opening the fitting.
Is it suitable for coastal or high-humidity environments?
The IP65 rating and die-cast aluminium construction provide protection against water jets and dust ingress, making it suitable for most UK outdoor environments including coastal areas. However, direct salt spray exposure may require periodic inspection and cleaning to maintain the finish and seal integrity.
What fixing method does it use?
The bulkhead mounts to external walls via fixing points on the rear baseplate. The 94mm projection from the wall surface must be accounted for when planning installation clearances. Suitable fixings for the wall substrate (brick, block, render) are not included and should be selected based on the wall material and loading requirements.
