Description
The Knightsbridge 13A 1-gang unswitched socket module is a 50x50mm euro-module component with a grey insert, designed to fit into modular grid faceplates alongside other euro-module accessories such as switches, dimmers, data outlets and TV sockets. The module provides a single 13A power outlet rated at 230V 50Hz, certified to BS 1363 for safe operation with standard UK plugs.
Designed for residential and commercial installations where modular flexibility is required, this socket module integrates into grid systems that allow multiple functions to be combined within a single faceplate. Common applications include kitchen worktops where power, USB charging and data connections need to sit together, home offices requiring mixed power and network access, and hospitality settings where flexibility in outlet configuration reduces installation complexity. The unswitched design means the socket is permanently live when the circuit is energised, suitable where appliances remain plugged in continuously.
The ABS construction provides impact resistance and dimensional stability, while the grey insert finish coordinates with grey and silver-toned grid faceplates from Knightsbridge's modular ranges. The 28mm recessed depth requires a minimum 35mm back box, and screw terminals accept conductor sizes typical of UK domestic and commercial ring final circuits. The IP20 rating confirms suitability for general indoor dry locations but not for bathrooms, outdoor use, or areas subject to moisture ingress.

Frequently Asked
What is a euro-module and how does it work?
Euro-modules are 50x50mm standardised electrical components that clip into modular grid faceplates. Multiple modules can be combined in one faceplate, allowing you to configure power, data, TV, USB and switching functions in any combination. This socket module requires a compatible euro-module faceplate sold separately.
What back box depth is required?
A minimum 35mm back box is needed. The module itself has a 28mm recessed depth, so the back box must accommodate this plus the depth of the grid faceplate frame and any cable terminations behind the module.
Why is this socket unswitched?
Unswitched sockets are permanently live when the circuit is on, suitable for appliances that remain plugged in continuously such as fridges, freezers, broadband routers or appliances with their own on/off control. If you need a switched outlet within a modular grid system, Knightsbridge offers switched socket modules as separate products.
Can this be used in bathrooms or outdoors?
No. The IP20 rating confirms this module is suitable only for general indoor dry locations. Bathrooms require higher IP ratings and specific compliance with wiring regulations for zones around baths and showers. Outdoor use requires weatherproof IP-rated enclosures.
